NEC Celebrates 12th Day of Peaceful Campaign Season

PHNOM PENH: According to the National Election Committee (NEC), this year’s election campaign season has seen 12 days of smooth, peaceful and safe campaigning.

An NEC press release from July 12 said that 13 political parties had participated in campaigning that day, including the Cambodian Nationality Party, who rallied in Pursat, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey provinces; the Cambodian Youth Party, who marched in Siem Reap and the Khmer National United Party who campaigned in Kratie.

Ten political parties (Cambodian People's Party, FUNCINPEC, the Local Democrat Party, the Citizens' Party, the Women's Party, the Indigenous Peoples Democratic Party of Cambodia, the Khmer National Unity Party, the Beehive Social Democratic Party, the Theosophical Party and the Farmers' Party) have been campaigning regularly by meeting with party members, activists and supporters; blasting their policies via megaphone at headquarters and from mobile convoys; handing out leaflets; putting up banners and posters; hosting concerts and showing promo videos on big screens around town.

There is just over a week left of election campaign season, which ends on July 21. The general election will then be held on Sunday, July 23.
